We had the most terrible news yesterday that our dear friend Penny Young passed away. We could not have seen this coming she was full of life and looked so fit and healthy. I am just going to copy a piece from her blog and show everyone what a wonderful person she was. Love you Penny XXX
I feel passionately that we’re not using the expertise, the wisdom, the fun of older people.
MY VISION: A SOCIETY WHERE EVERYONE OVER 50 IS ADMIRED
MY UTOPIA
All ages share with each other on an equal basis
No-one retires anymore – we just change direction
All elders are loved as icons – treasure chests of wisdom, precious and revered
Older people are as passionate and take as many risks as they did when they were younger.
I live to at least 100 years old and am healthy and happy
At some point I keel over or choose to end life with dignity in the place I want to be, surrounded by the people I choose to be with
I’m not afraid to live and I’m not afraid to die.
Be the Age You are in Your Mind – Grow Old the “Young” Way
We each experience three ages:
•your chronological age which is the number of years you have been on earth (this time round)
•your biological age and that can be younger or older than your chronological age depending on how you’ve looked after yourself
•and your ‘essence age’.
‘Essence Age’
This is the most important ‘age’ for you. It’s the age you always think of yourself, the age of your inner essence, and it can be any age you want it to be, regardless of how many years you have lived.
When I ask anyone what age they are in their heads, without thinking about it, they almost always come up with a number that is different from their actual age. Someone who is 55 may tell me that he’s always been 22 in his head. We all have an Essence age and mostly it’s younger. That’s the age by which we can live our lives.
At some point in your life – it could be 40, 50, 60 or above, you’ll wake up one morning and realise that you don’t want to conform to anyone else’s values or rules but your own. This is a key sign of maturing and being happy with who you are. It heralds a new way of being for you. And it may bring major changes to the way you live your daily life and to how you achieve your dreams.
I love working with individuals who want to make positive changes in their lives.
Most of my career has been in project management, facilitation and strategic planning within the public and private sector. I’ve also managed a career in radio journalism/production and I’m a qualified recruitment consultant.
I’m currently researching and writing a book about celebrating enjoying being older. “How to Age Magnificently” is based on research on all aspects of the ageing process and backed up with interviews with a host of celebrities and interesting people who are enjoying their later years.
